Bobby Joe Hughes

In 1985, Bob and Barbara Hughes married and moved to The Woodlands.  Bob was employed at Mitchell Energy, and Barbara taught at Sally K. Ride Elementary.  He and Barbara have two grown children and one grandchild, all of whom live in the Woodlands.

Bob has had a long and varied career in the oil business.  He spent more than 20 years at Mitchell Energy and Development Corp.  As his years at Mitchell progressed, Bob’s responsibilities included the fleet department and the Bluebonnet Seed Project. Inspired by Cynthia Woods Mitchell, he doubled the bluebonnet seedlings along the main streets of our hometown.   After leaving Mitchell Energy, Bob began building shore bases in southern Louisiana, which greatly expanded his knowledge and experience. He ended his successful career at PXP in their deepwater offshore division.

Now retired, Bob has become a master knife maker, forging his own metal and crafting handles from ironwood and camel bone.  He also creates leather and wood products.  Throughout the years, Bob has volunteered at United Way and the Houston Rodeo BBQ committee.
